Have hope because there are excellent resources and books to help you with your baby's first year.

This doesn't mean that a newborn checklist is a waste of time or that you shouldn't bother. On the contrary it is meant to help you realise that even the best parents attempt to determine exactly what their newborn will need and what you will need to do will always suffer from oversights. It's no ones fault as there's always a level of unpredictability when receiving a new family member.

Even though it might seem a daunting task once you start. As a new parent you will always try to prepare a checklist for your new arrival. Your list may not be perfect but it can still be very helpful to you. To help you along the way here are a couple of suggestions to help you with making your new child rearing system. It should make adding your new baby to the family a little easier.

  1. Focus on items instead fo scheduling. It will be difficult for you or anyone to get your tasks completed on schedule. It's just too hard and unpredictable to set aside the time to a strict schedule. Don't worry though as a parent you'll surprise yourself at how resourceful you can be and will get everything that is necessary done. So concentrate on what you need not on the time you need to spend getting what you need.
  2. Remember the gifts. You're going to be so busy preparing that you forget you may not think about the gifts your family and loved ones will give you. A lot of your checklist may well be given as gifts for your newborn and will probably need to be used in your new baby's first year. So a good idea might be to create a newborn gift registry.
  3. Don't be tied to your checklist, it should be flexible. Remember to enjoy your time. Having a baby is a wonderful experience and you should make an effort to make it as stress free as possible for you and your partner. Your needs and schedule are going to change so you must be able to adapt your list as necessary.

Preparing for the arrival of your new baby is no walk in the park but been prepared and having good lists will help things to run more smoothly for you and your baby. If you can make a list and not stress about it needing to be perfect and that fact that it will change, then you and your baby's first year will be a fantastic one.
